Governor Murphy gave his first budget address to the people of New Jersey this week and it demonstrates that his administration is ready to make good on the promise to get New Jersey’s economy moving again. The Governor presented a responsible budget that includes significant investments in good jobs, education, career training, health care, and fully fund the state pension system.

We are pleased to announce that President Lee Saunders has appointed a constitution committee for AFSCME New Jersey! The constitution committee will be meeting in the coming weeks and months to help put together a constitution for the members of AFSCME New Jersey. During this process, the committee will be holding regional town hall meetings where members will have the opportunity to give their input into what they would like to see in our constitution.

Just before the Christmas holiday, the state announced that it will not lease or sell the city’s water system to a private company. This followed more than a year of concern from residents and activists about the fate of the Municipal Utilities Authority, and is due in part to the hard work and dedication of AFSCME members in and around Atlantic City. 

The first winter storm of the season is making its way to New Jersey on Saturday, with six to 10 inches expected in South Jersey, and four to six throughout the rest of the state.

While many New Jersey residents are getting home from work and hunkering down for the storm, most AFSCME New Jersey members are getting ready to brave the weather.
